A photo of Nyamira County boss John Nyagarama having 'good' times with First Lady Naomi Nyagarama has elicited sharp debate among social media users.
For over two months now, Nyagarama has been in the US for medical checkup, leaving the county in the hands of his deputy Amos Nyaribo.
"The governor's health has substantially improved and he will be back soon for the burial of his son," read a statement from the county.
While he was away, his son, Ndemo Nyagarama, passed on at Nairobi Hospital after months of battling with acute meningitis.
And in Nyamira WhatsApp group, his critics fired back at him over what they called 'neglecting' his dead son.
"Someone is enjoying in the US in the name of medical checkup yet his son is dead. This is being inhuman," said Jared Onyancha.
Another user Evans Misati added: "If the photo is anything to go by, this man is just squandering public resources. He should come back for funeral of his son."
But the ODM governor's supporters accused critics of being 'insincere' adding that the Nyagarma, a close ally of Raila Odinga, was acting upon recommendation of doctors.
"It is in public knowledge that he has been undergoing treatment. He is not in the US to enjoy anything," said George Momanyi.
Later on 20th July, Nyagarama is expected to attend the funeral programme of his son who died a month ago.
