After months of waiting, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i will make his political stand known.
Mr. Matiang'i, whose movements in Kisii and Nyamira County have kept opponents guessing, is said to have settled to run for Nyamira gubernatorial position in 2022.
"Everything is set and it's just a matter of days he makes his stand know. He has been weighing a lot of options and he settled on Nyamira.
"It's basically because he was born in the county and believes he will help transition it to the better standards," said the source, adding that the announcement will however be declared informally.
There was controversy on the seat Matiang'i would run for given his roots both in Kisii and Nyamira Counties.
While his parents were born in South Mugirango in Kisi, he was born and brought up in Nyamira, Borabu County.
His latest decision could be a blow to Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, who is also eyeing to succeed Governor John Nyagarama.
"It is going to be a tough race. Matiang'i's entry gives more viable options and this is likely to change everything," said Patel Aboki, a Borabu politician.
Others expected in the race are Timothy Bosire, Walter Nyambati, Mwancha Okioma, Erneo Nyakiba and Dr. James Gesami.
