The 25-year old man identified as Victor Omwaka was alongside three other men at a quarry in Kisiani.

One of the harvesters identified as James noted that the deceased was at the deep end of the quarry when the tragedy occurred.

“He was at the deep end of the quarry. The collapse was sudden and quick. We couldn’t do anything to help,” he said.

With the help of the other two friends, they managed to scoop out the soil in about 45 minutes but Victor was already dead.

The deceased had survived the same tragedy at Lela on 23rd May 2018 after the quarry collapsed on him.

In that incident, the man was lucky to come out alive after being buried in the soil for almost 30 minutes.

After recovering from the shock, Victor told his friends that the incident was a warning to him, adding that he will never go to the quarry again.

Barely five months passed before Victor returned to the quarry claiming that, "If a passenger survived an accident it doesn’t mean he should not travel."
