Four-time-London Marathon winner Eliud Kipchoge visited English side Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday shortly after winning the London Marathon on Sunday.
The Kenyan marathoner watched Spurs in action against Holland’s Ajax Amsterdam in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final stage on Tuesday night, where Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama featured prominently as his Spurs side went down 0-1.
In an interview with a Spurs media officer, Kipchoge paid glowing tribute to the Kenyan Captain and the impact he is having on the next generation of players.
“Victor is the man in Kenya. Victor is a big man, he is the boss of football in Kenya,” he said.
He went on, “I am proud to see him. I am a Tottenham fan. We are always shouting whenever he scores a goal. Actually, he is a big inspiration to the young generation. Many people now want to be professional footballers in Kenya through Victor.”
He said that Kenya is poised on producing the best footballers in the world through Wanyama’s impact. During his Spurs stadium tour, Kipchoge met several players among them English international Dele Ali.
He also met Spurs manager Argentine Mauricio Pochettino. Kipchoge said he will try to defend his London title for the third straight year in 2020.
