NARC party leader Martha Karua has dismissed discussions on succession politics saying that the seat has not been reserved for men nor anyone in particular.
While addressing journalists in Nairobi on Wednesday, Karua said that those discussing 2022 succession politics should know that women can also be Kenya's head of state. She stated that no Kenyan has an entitlement to the Presidency.
“Everybody is entitled to seek any seat they want. And I have told our male brothers in this country the presidency is not a reserve for only men. Do not write us off as women.”, the former minister stated.
She went ahead to urge politicians to go slow because some candidates had already declared their intentions to vie and some were to yet join the race.
Disputing tribal politics, the former member of parliament for the Gichugu Constituency stated that Kenya is bigger than any two communities and those in the belief that the 2013 formations would work were in for a rude shock.
Karua who contested for the presidency in 2013 under the NARC party ticket came in 6th with 43,881 votes.
She has renewed her efforts to vie for the seat again after she contested unsuccessfully for the Kirinyaga Gubernatorial race and lost to Ann Waiguru.
