Exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna is now demanding unrestricted entry into the country on Tuesday.
With less than 24 hours remaining before he lands at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), the fiery lawyer demanded to be allowed to return to his country of birth without conditions from Kenyan authorities.
In a tweet on Monday, he also asked the government to surrender back his Kenyan passport and be allowed to exercise his constitutional-guaranteed freedoms freely.
"On January 7, 2020, I'm not asking for any special treatments. I want and demand all my rights and fundamental freedoms to be respected. I want my valid Kenyan passport back. I want court orders to be obeyed and complied with. I must enter Kenya unconditionally as a Kenyan," Miguna posted.
His remarks came barely hours after Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna gave him green light to return to the country from exile that lasted almost two years.
On Sunday, Oguna said the lawyer will be allowed back to the country without conditions after President Uhuru Kenyatta said the government will not oppose his return, so he can continue enjoying his freedom of speech and expression.
“None other than the chief executive officer of the country has made a public pronouncement on the matter. That remains the government’s position and nothing has changed at all,” he said in reference to Uhuru's remarks during the burial of second liberation hero Charles Rubia last week.
"I hear there are those seeking to board aeroplanes to come back to Kenya to continue talking. Let them come and shout but let's use the freedom of expression in a manner that will help Kenyans," Uhuru said while in Kandara, Murang'a County on Monday.
