Thirteen people were injured in a road accident involving a 14-seater matatu and a lorry at the Machakos-Nairobi road near Maanzoni area.
Twelve among those injured were rushed to Shalom Community hospital for treatment. One of the victims was taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for further treatment. Those with minor injuries were treated and discharged while the rest were admitted.
Deputy director of transport in Machakos County, Jestus Kitembu, said that the accident involved the matatu which was traveling from Nairobi to Machakos with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction.
He said the matatu driver was overtaking and a vehicle when his van collided with an on-coming lorry.
Machakos county ambulances rushed the victims to Shallom Community Hospital in Athi River and one of the victims who had major injuries was rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for special treatment.
Residents helped to rescue those trapped in the wreckage and gave them first aid before they were rushed to Hospital by county ambulances.
He added that the two vehicles collided head on at Maanzoni area near Kyumbi market. Kitembu urged road users to be more careful especially in black spots and during the festive season.
