Police in Likoni, Mombasa County, have arrested 13 people suspected to be members of a gang that has been terrorizing residents in the area.
Confirming the Sunday morning arrest, Likoni police boss Willy Simba said the suspects who are believed to members of the Watalia gang, were arrested in Celtel area, Mombasa.According to Mr Simba, security agents planned the raid following a tip-off from the public, after the gang was allegedly spotted ready to carry out a robbery.The suspects, among them minors,were found in possession of several machetes, knives and hammers. “We got information from the public that there was a gang regrouping to cause mayhem in the area. We quickly mobilized our officers from various departments and we managed to arrest 13 of them. The crackdown will continue,” Mr Simba said.“We are now revising new ways to deal with this gang before the election period. We are well prepared and we going to win this war,” he added.The police boss said the minors will be taken to the Tononoka children court, while the rest will be arraigned at Mombasa High Court to face charges of criminal possession of weapons.
