Thirteen suspects have been gunned down and several others arrested by police officers in Mlolongo town and its environs in the last three weeks, says official.
Addressing the press at his office in Mlolongo town on Tuesday, area assistant county commissioner Kennedy Keraro said the rate of insecurity was high in the region.
Keraro said the culprits included armed robbers and smugglers who had been terrorizing members of the public in Mlolongo, Syokimau and Sabaki areas within Athi River sub-county.
“Two armed robbers were shot dead by our security agents at 4.00 pm in Sabaki last Friday, one arrested and a pistol recovered from them,” said Keraro.
He said another suspect was shot dead in Mlolongo town on Monday evening by police while two of his colleagues managed to escape.
Keraro said the three had smuggled a mobile phone and Sh20,000 from a pedestrian on one of the town’s streets before they were accosted by security agents.
He said they had lots of information on the bandits from members of the public thereby making trailing of the criminals efficiently effective.
Keraro said police were in high pursuit of all criminals in the region whether armed robbers or petty smugglers in a bid of restoring enhanced security in the area.
“Security seems to be improving since stern actions are being taken on gang robbers and petty criminals,” said Keraro.
He said with enhanced corporation with members of the public who give them accurate information on the criminals, they were determined to eliminating all bandits in the region.
Keraro said the criminals should quit their illegal trade and seek legitimate sources of earning livelihoods so as to escape from the bullet.
