A 13-year-old boy was on Sunday killed in Marsabit by unknown attackers while three others sustained injuries.
The four were attacked with machetes at Songa-Kiturini area while herding livestock. The deceased had cuts on his throat according to the-star newspaper.
The other three aged 10, 11 and 13 were rushed to a nearby dispensary and later dispatched to Marsabit county referral hospital for treatment.
Confirming the incident, the area police boss Joseph Mutende that some people have been arrested in connection to the killing.
"The three children who survived the attack sustained panga cuts and were rushed to Badasa health centre for treatment by a good Samaritan,"
The teenagers from a local primary school caught the attention of a motorist who took them to the health centre since they had been crying for help.
"The boys were bleeding. They had cut wounds on their heads and arms." Said Peter Gedere the Good Samaritan.
Governor Ukur Yattani condemned the highway attacks and called on local security agencies to beef security on the roads. He further urged the police to investigate the motive behind the attacks.
Kargi MCA Issa Gambare, who visited the wounded boys at the hospital, said he suspects the attacks were political. However, the area governor dismisse the claims saying such would only worsen the situation.
The boys now are stable according to Dr. Elizabeth Pantoren, who is attending to the boys.
