Despite concerted efforts by the government and stakeholders, the girl child remains marginalized with most struggling families opting to take their male children to school.
Such was a fate that 13 year-old Vanessa Musyoki was about to find herself immersed in were it not for timely interventions.
A former pupil at Bridge international schools Kwa Holla in Mombasa County, Vanessa was to beat all odds and score an incredible 408 marks in her KCPE examinations.
Her life having turned around in what she attributes to hard work and unparalleled support by her teachers who not only helped her understand topics under study but also inculcated a culture of accountability and leadership.
“I credit my success to the bridge community without whom my childhood dreams could just have remained dreams,” she observes.
Having being enrolled at Muthale Girls High school, Vanesa says that her dreams of one day emulating the success of Lupita Nyong’o on the big screen remains valid. Renowned African novelist Chinua Achebe whose works have gained global acclaim, remains one of her role models.
Bridge pupils have over the last three years posted incredible KCPE examinations results, outperforming the national performance average.
