The Wiper politician told a political gathering that he had cut his communications with Kavindu who was then rallying for the Machakos Woman Representative's seat on a Jubilee party ticket.

"That woman is not my wife, we separated a long time ago," Muthama said.

However, the public was shocked by the answer Muthama gave when he was asked by reporters why Kavindu still uses his name if indeed they had divorced.

Muthama said his name is a brand and anyone would want to be called by it.

"My name is a brand and I doubt if there's any person who wouldn't want to be called by it," Muthama said.

In what seemed like a retaliation, Kavindu later held a rally in Muthama's backyard.

She took advantage of the political rally to tell the locals that she was still married to Muthama.

Agnes Kavindu Muthama came into the limelight after declaring her interest for the  Machakos Woman Representative seat ahead of the 2017 polls.

She emerged second after the incumbent Joyce Kamene who clinched the seat on a Wiper party ticket.
