This comes at a time when another section of elected leaders has come out strongly against the exercise, terming it a plot to victimize a specific community from the region.

During a joint press conference in Eldoret town, Wednesday, Elgeyo Marakwet KANU chairman Paul Kibet and his Uasin Gishu counterpart David Chepsiror bashed the group for politicising the issue.

Kibet said that Kenyans are happy with the purge, claiming that the lamenting group is most likely comprised of corrupt persons afraid of being caught in the process.

“Kenyans want answers not rhetoric from leaders who are afraid of the outcome of investigations targeting corrupt individuals,” he was quoted by the Standard.

Chepsiror, on the other hand, urged the group to cease being jittery, stop interfering and let the matter be handled by relevant authorities.

“Why are we seeing leaders jittery yet Uhuru has not mentioned or linked them to graft? They should let Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Office of Public Prosecutions do their work," he said.

Similar remarks were made by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Devolution Secretary Kipkorir Menjo who challenged the leaders to address the real issues.

“At the moment, farmers are waiting for fertilizer so that they can plant maize but the leaders are silent on that issue. They are now crying foul saying their community is being targeted with corruption claims, and not addressing issues that affect citizens," Menjo was also quoted by the Standard.

The other group, largely allied to Deputy President William Ruto has been claiming that the purge is targeting both the community and the Rift Valley region.
