A section of church leaders in Eldoret town has hit out at Kangema Member of Parliament Muturi Kigano following his remarks over the weekend on the formation of churches in the country.
Kigano made the remarks in Kigumo Sub County on Sunday where he claimed that the current church registration process was being abused by unscrupulous people who masquerade as men of God.
According to the Jubilee MP, many were opening churches with the sole purpose of making money and enriching themselves.
“We even have churches that are made up of three members with a husband being the Bishop, wife acting as the pastor or archdeacon and their daughter as the treasurer. This cannot be allowed to go on,” Kigano said.
The sentiments have not gone down well with some clergymen in the Uasin Gishu's capital.
Led by Blessed Church Eldoret Pastor Moses Indika, the clergy asked the MP to withdraw his sentiments and ask for forgiveness from the Christian family in the country.
“Hon. Kigano was out of context and out of spirit, there is no way people can be restricted from forming churches because that will be contrary to the freedom of worship morals. I urge society to ignore those demonic sentiments and focus on important issues,” said Pastor Indika.
He also insisted that it was wrong for an elected leader to bring politics in the work of God noting that forming a church is a spiritual calling and that only God has the power of identifying fake preachers or churches.
Similar sentiments were shared by Pastor John Kioko of Global Victors Church in Eldoret.
