Angry residents of Mongorisi village in West Mugirango descended on a woman with kicks and blows after she took the body of her dead husband for burial at her parents’ home.
Residents said the deceased, Rodgers Maonda died while receiving treatment in Nairobi on Monday and his wife Rose Maonda sneaked the body to her ancestral home.
“Maonda has a home where he was to be buried but his wife decided to joke around with the minds of villagers by taking the body to Nyabisimba instead of Mongorisi,” said Stella Mokua.
Mrs. Mokua said residents who were alerted that the body was taken to the woman’s home were angered thus the commotion.
Area assistant chief, Paul Onchari said Magoma was attacked after she claimed that her husband was bewitched.
“Magoma got it rough from the residents of Mongorisi who raided her home where she had taken to body of her dead husband.
"She received a thorough beating before she was rescued from the jaws of death by Nyumba Kumi officials,” he said.
Morema said the body was later moved to Mongorisi village where the deceased hailed from for burial today, Tuesday.
