Although DP William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga have been center of attention for 2022 presidential bid, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i is now being linked to the race.
The tough speaking minister is however yet to officially declare his intentions to run for president, limiting his public utterances to development.
But a group of leaders from Nyamira and Kisii Counties are keen to have him on ballot, a move which is been advocated for by Governor John Nyagarama.
"Our community is now ready to go for Presidency. We have supported other regions for many years. Matiang'i is fit to represent us in the race for top seat," Nyagarama said on Friday in Nyamira.
For Senator Okong'o Mogeni, Matiang'i's presidency will crush corruption in the country besides bringing sanity in the public sector.
"He has demonstrated that corruption cannot be tolerated. The only thing that is remaining is to help him reach the top seat. We are ready as a community."
Others who have strongly come out to support him include Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama, Senator Sam Ongeri and Kisii Woman Representative Janet Ong'era.
Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka believes Matiang'i is on the right track but he only advocates for him to continue supporting handshake.
"We are comfortable with your leadership. Let's look at the dynamics before declaring our next move. I am however seeing you going places," he said on Friday in Nyamira.
Apparently, MPs Jerusha Momanyi, Vincent Kemosi, Joash Nyamoko and Shadrack Mose have already endorsed DP William Ruto for the top seat.
