Residents of Riangabi village in Kerera location are mourning the death of a 25-year-old man who committed suicide after his girlfriend allegedly eloped with another man.
Confirming the incident, Kerera location chief Calvin Keng'wara said the deceased, Victor Ongeri Kegengo, looked disturbed after he received news that a woman he has been having an affair with eloped with another man to Nairobi.
"Kegengo has been a quiet man who could hardly quarrel with locals. The news about his girlfriend who eloped with another man to Nairobi disturbed him to the extent he threatened to end his life," said the chief.
The administrator said Mr Kegengo returned home from a nearby shopping center on Friday at 9pm and told his parents that he was contemplating suicide.
"He retired to bed after informing his parents about his girlfriend's decision to elope with another man. His lifeless body was found hanging from a roof of his house," he stated.
He urged youths to stop opting to suicide when faced with difficulties in life.
The chief said the body of the deceased was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting burial.
