On September 10, 2016, Singer Bahati left Kenyans shocked when he pulled President Uhuru Kenyatta from his sit to sing for the first lady Margeret Kenyatta his hit song Mama.
Bahati was later faulted for what many termed as an attempted coup.
He, however, came out and apologized for the act.
“The truth is I got really emotional and whatever I did could have gone out of hand. I truly love the President and I was only acting like a child would with a father. I am truly sorry to the President and all Kenyans who felt I did something wrong,” Bahati told a local daily.
A number of Kenyans criticized him for the act.
Esau Kioni, a security consultant on VIP protection and adviser to former President Mwai Kibaki, said that it was unimaginable for Bahati to do such a thing.
He also blamed the security for acting in way he deemed was a threat to Uhuru’s life.
“The security team should have acted because that was a security breach. VIP security is not something to take for granted and if anything happened to the President, they would be answerable,” said Kioni.
He also said that Bahati had harassed the first lady in the name of singing for her.
