150,000 orders have been placed for Tesla's newly unveiled Cybertruck in spite of an unveiling fiasco that saw two windows of the truck break after being hit with a metal ball.
Tesla boss Ellon Musk had made much about the strength of the windows which he said could not be broken.
That claim was put to the test during a demonstration only to lead to an embarrassing shattering of the windows, not once but twice, a blunder that ended up overshadowing the launch.
BBC reported that the shares of the Tesla company took a 6.1 per cent nosedive after the fiasco.
"146k Cybertruck orders so far, with 42% choosing dual, 41% tri & 17% single motor," Ellon Musk tweeted, announcing the orders that have come through.
Tesla has not released to the public the definite release date for the hyped Cybertruck but analyst contends that it would be ready for release until after the end of 2021 at the earliest.
The Cybertruck boasts of an angular, armoured body with its starting price being put at around $39,900 (£31,000) according to the Independent.
During the launch, Mr Musk said that the vehicle would be able to move from 0 to 100km/h (62 mph) in about three seconds.
In spite of its hyped capabilities, some analysts have expressed concerns about the Cybertrucks futuristic design.
The vehicle is expected to offer stiff competition to other established car manufacturers.
