Ida Odinga, the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's wife on Friday joined the political leaders in the push for the referendum and focused on women spaces in the constitutional changes.
Joining Women and other leaders at Angurai in Teso North Constituency, Busia county, for the International women's day, Dr.Ida Odinga issued conditions for women space on the proposed referendum.
Ida noted that women and men are equal as per the law hence deserve sharing equal leadership positions for the betterment of the country.
"We do not want to hear of two-thirds or a third gender rule. What we are demanding now is the share of positions with men on an equal basis and no turning back in our pursuit for justice," Dr Ida said.
The former Prime Ministers wife expressed her disappointment when the gender bill flopped in parliament last month due to lack of the quorum while rebuking the members of parliament who never voted for the bill.
The women leaders who accompanied Dr.Ida to celebrate the Women's day in Teso North include Busia county women representative Florence Mutua, Nominated Senator Emma Mbura, Rose Nyamunga and the East African Legislative Assembly Member Fatuma Gedi, rejected the gender threshold.
Dr.Ida further thanked his 'son' the Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong for observing the constitutional principle of equality by employing women in top leadership in the county.
"I want to thank Governor Ojaamong, who happens to be my son, for observing gender parity in his cabinet and all leaders should emulate him," added Dr.Ida.
She further challenged women to Vie for all seats from MCAs, noting that they need to push for motions which can raise the living standards for the community.
