Kikuyu Council of elders on Friday came out guns blazing, accusing Deputy President William Ruto of allegedly sabotaging President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking at Kabiru-ini grounds in Nyeri, the council members further accused the second in command of practicing cheap and petty politics.
“The DP has been playing petty politics meant to undermine the President and divide Central Kenya, despite the Head of State telling politicians to stop early campaigns,”Peter Munga, who is the Secretary of the council said as quoted by the Standard.
The sentiments come at a time when divisions are being witnessed in the Jubilee party, which is led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
Top among the issues being debated include Ruto's early 2022 campaigns, which insiders claim that have dislodged Uhuru's Big Four agenda.
A group of politicians in the party popularly known as ‘Tanga Tanga ‘ has pledged its unwavering support for Ruto’s presidential ambitions.
Another group branded ‘Kieleweke’ has opposed Ruto’s rise to presidency, claiming that the man from Sugoi is unfit to lead the nation.
The declaration by the council of elders has sparked mixed reactions with their counterparts from Rift Valley asking Central Kenya to reciprocate following Ruto's support to Uhuru in 2013 and 2017.
