President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to tour Kisumu County next week, in a visit that will see him preside over the official launch of the Universal Health Care (UHC) campaign.
This will be his second visit of the region since the start of his second term, his last time in the entire Luo Nyanza region being during the campaigns that preceded the 2017 general elections.
However, he has been promised of the best reception in the opposition leader Raila Odinga turf, with Muhoroni lawmaker Onyango K’Oyoo noting that the region has dropped its political hate for Uhuru.
K’Oyoo has joined other regional leaders in support of the visit, telling Uhuru to look forward to a warm reception in a region considered hostile to him.
“We appreciate his visit and he will be surprised how he will be welcomed in a region many perceive to be hostile to him,’’ he is quoted by the Mediamax Digital.
Uhuru’s anticipated tour comes barely a week after First Lady Margaret Kenyatta spearheaded the Beyond Zero caravan which seeks to avail better and cheaper healthcare for Kenyans.
The tour also follows Uhuru’s march 9 truce with Raila where they vowed to shelve their differences in favor of Kenyans.
Also in support of the same is area Senator Fred Outa who said that the region has been longing for Uhuru’s visit.
“After the handshake, we have been waiting for the President to visit and we are glad that he will finally come. Let’s hope his program will not be changed,” he is quoted.
