It was all smiles for a needy but bright boy from Kiambu when he joined his dream school on Wednesday.
Francis Kyalo reported to JG Kiere-ini Boys Secondary School in Githunguri almost a month after his peers had started their studies.
The 14-year-old boy has been idling at home hopelessly due to lack of school fees since his mother, a single parent, could not afford the Sh38,000 that the school demanded for his admission.
Just when he was about to give up on his dream of becoming a doctor, a well-wisher turned up and offered to pay the boy's school fees.
A Kenyan living in the United States, who requested not to be named, decided to offer a helping hand after he read the boy's story on hivisasa.com.
The well-wisher sent the money to his relative in the country who in turn deposited it to the school's bank account.
"He saw the story being shared on the Limuru Notice Board Facebook group and sympathised with the needy boy and decided to offer assistance," said Kiarie Muiru, the relative.
The student sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations last year and scored 331 marks to secure a place at the PCEA-sponsored school.
He was a pupil at Rwaka Primary School, a public institution, located in Kiambu's Limuru Constituency.
Kyalo's mother, Sera Mutuku, thanked the sponsor and other Kenyans who sent their donations through her mobile number.
"The prospect of my son losing out on secondary education was almost becoming a reality but God performed a miracle at our hour of need," said the mother of five.
Mutuku is a casual labourer at a tea farm in the area but has been out of employment for the last seven months.
On his part, Kyalo has promised to work hard in his studies in order to make his dream of becoming a doctor turn into reality.
"I will not disappoint all those who have assisted me to continue with my education," said Kyalo.
