A man went blind on Thursday evening barely an hour after killing a big snake in Maseno.
According to the witnesses, the snake was crawling behind the house of one of the residents in Maseno.
The man identified as Luta Andeyi took courage and killed the snake with much ease since it was not violent.
However, after an hour, the man complained of problems with his sight, saying he was not able to see well.
The family members rushed him to the hospital fearing that the snake’s poison might have affected his sight.
“He became blind after killing the snake. We rushed him to Maseno Mission Hospital,” said Collins Andeyi, the brother to the victim.
The doctor at the hospital did not find any snake poison and could not determine the real cause of the blindness.
Mzee Wilberforce, an elder from Mabungo instructed the boy to be taken to a pastor for prayers, claiming that the blindness could have been a result of witchcraft.
“Such snakes are used for witchcraft. Killing them comes with consequences. He needs prayers to regain his sight," Mzee Wilberforce opined.
