200 elderly people will be enrolled in the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) scheme, Bonchari Member of Parliament John Oyioka has said.
The MP while speaking on Tuesday at Suneka said ageing people across the constituency will benefit.
"Elderly people in the constituency will have their NHIF paid for using the CDF funds. We will start with 200 people, 100 men and 100 women," Oyioka said.
He asked local chiefs to collect the names of elderly people to be enrolled in the scheme.
According to the MP, only elderly people who are poor will benefit.
Oyioka warned locals chiefs against favouring the elderly when registering saying there must be fairness.
"Chiefs should conduct a thorough background check before surrendering the names of the elderly persons to be enrolled into the scheme. The process of registering elderly people should be transparent," he stated.
He called on families with elderly people who are unable to walk to surrender the names to the chiefs as well so that they can be enrolled in the program.
The legislator assured that no elderly person will die for lack of funds to get medical care as the program will help pay for their treatment expenses.
