There was jubilation at Moi University, Kitale Campus on Thursday as the newly elected Moi University Students Organisation (MUSO) chairperson Timothy Kemboi celebrated his victory.
Kemboi, who is pursuing a course in agriculture, clinched the seat in the hotly contested race after he garnered 22 votes out of the 33 votes cast.
A section of students who had attended the victory party could not hide their joy, with a number of them revealing that they had been eagerly waiting for Kemboi to take over the students' leadership.
"It's a victory to students not only here in the Kitale campus but to the entire Moi University fraternity. We now feel part of Moi University as Kemboi will be a key figure in transforming the Kitale campus," said Victor Chumba, one of Kemboi's campaigners.
Mercy, a student, said they are optimistic that Kemboi will transform the campus as well as agitate for their rights.
"We have been waiting eagerly for Kemboi to be declared the winner because we knew he had the qualities and his hard work has really paid off," said Mercy.
Weldon Kimutai urged the newly elected MUSO chair to fulfil the promises he made during the campaigns.
"Kemboi has really proved he is a good leader and we are hoping he will definitely perform according to his manifesto," said Kimutai.
On his part, Kemboi thanked his fellow students for voting for him and giving him the mandate to lead them.
"I thank God that I have been empowered by the comrades to play this big role in improving the welfare of Moi University students. I promise that I will work to deliver all that was outlined in my manifesto," said Kemboi.
The MUSO leaders are set to assume office in the coming days.
