Raila Odinga’s elder brother Oburu Odinga has given President Uhuru Kenyatta an ultimatum if he wants the ODM leader to continue supporting him.
Oburu said Uhuru must face corrupt elements in government head-on lest he makes Raila quit their pact.
“My brother Raila has put vigour in the fight against corruption because President Uhuru is committed. But in case he gets distracted by suspects to the extent of backing down, Raila would simply walk out of the handshake,” Oburu said.
According to People Daily, the elderly politician was speaking at Kolenyo in Siaya County on Sunday during campaigns for the Ugenya by-election.
He also warned that after pulling out of the Handshake, Raila would also abandon the Building Bridges Initiative.
The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP lamented that despite some ‘big fish’ being named in corruption cases, no action has been taken and now it appears they are untouchable.
The remarks, which are likely to cause ripples within political circles comes at a time when reports emerged that Raila is getting concerned with remarks made by his allies.
On Sunday, Sunday Nation reported that Raila was angry at Orengo for reportedly initiating a debate on plans to impeach Deputy President William Ruto.
Raila, the paper reported, is concerned that such political moves will be detrimental to the Handshake and the Building Bridges Initiative.
