Jonathan Moi was a humble and diligent man who cherished everyone despite the social class, Deputy President William Ruto has said in his tribute.
The former Safari rally driver died last week aged 64. Earlier this week and, his family through Lee Njiru said his father, Mzee Daniel Moi, would be unable to see visitors, a statement which could have inspired Ruto to visit Jonathan's home in Kabimoi.
"The family with heavy hearts wishes to inform all our friends that our patriarch Mzee Moi may not be able to personally receive those wishing to offer their condolence. This inevitable stand does not in any way lessen our gratitude dear friends. Please understand us," the statement said.
In the company of Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis, Eldama Ravine MP Moses Lessonet and Soy MP Caleb Kositany, Dr Ruto arrived at Jonathan's home at 3:40pm.
"Jonathan Moi's humble disposition and wit won him many friends and a huge fan base from rally enthusiasts. He valued hard work, diligence and dedication to whatever he put his mind to. His passing on is a great loss, not only to his family but to the country," he wrote on his Facebook after the trip.
The DP, whose relationship with Moi's has been blowing hot and cold, emphasized on the need for Kenyans to go for regular cancer screening. He said the disease can be controlled at an early stage.
"We need to educate our people on the importance of visiting hospitals for cancer screening because if detected in the early stages, it can be successfully treated," the DP said.
After the visit, Dr Ruto jetted to Nakuru County in Kuresoi where he visited the family of Bomet East MP Beatrice Kones, who also lost her daughter Vicky Kones last week.
