Duale argues that the current 15 percent funding allocation to counties is not enough to spearhead development at the grassroots.

Speaking to journalists in Garissa Town on Sunday, Duale said that increased funding to counties is one of his key proposals for the proposed referendum.

According to Duale, counties are unable to execute serious development because of poor funding.

“I am pushing for 75 percent funding to counties from the current 15 percent so that common mwananchi can have a feel of the development at grassroot levels,” he said.

The Garissa MP said that devolution was crafted for the common mwananchi.

The Leader of Majority in the National Assembly also vowed to protect devolution.

Duale warned against proposals to reduce or merge the number of counties.

“We are not going to tolerate people who want to cut on the number of counties or representation,” he said.

The Jubilee MP said that Kenyans will suffer if counties were to be merged or reduced.

Meanwhile, Duale has warned politicians against politicising the upcoming August census.

Duale wants politicians to keep off the planned census and allow the mandated agencies to carry out the exercise without interference.
