Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi has asked politicians allied to ‘tanga tanga’ and ‘kieleweke’ teams to tone down and spearhead unity in the country.
Mulyungi says that continued politicking by the two rival groups is causing anxiety in the country.
In a phone interview on Wednesday, the MP nicknamed ‘Tsunami’ said that succession politics is slowly plunging the county into an election mood.
The MP further observed that some politicians are taking advantage of the succession debate to spew hatred.
“I want to ask my brothers and sisters in ‘tanga tanga’ and ‘kieleweke’ to stop early campaigns and focus on the country’s unity and development,” he said.
Mulyungi stated that succession politics will be played out when the right time comes, adding that it is time for elected leaders to focus on development.
“It is not bad to debate about who will succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 but let us do it when the right time comes,” he added.
Mulyungi noted that the country is currently grappling with serious issues like drought and famine that needs the attention of leaders.
He asked Kenyans to be on the lookout and vote out leaders who have abandoned their duties when 2022 comes.
Mulyungi also asked Kenyans to ignore politicians who are perpetuating hate in the name of succession politics.
A section of politicians allied to team 'tanga tanga' and 'Kieleweke' has been exchanging bitter words as the battle for 2022 general election gets closer.
Team 'tanga tanga' is pushing for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidency while team 'kieleweke' is against Ruto’s bid.
The rivalry between the two groups now threatens to tear apart the ruling Jubilee Party.
