Police have been deployed to Kilifi County to hunt down a group of gunmen who attacked residents and kidnapped an Italian female volunteer.
Through the Kenya Police official Facebook page, police said five people were injured in the Tuesday evening incident and one is in critical condition.
“Neither the reasons for the attack nor the identity of the attackers have been established. Meanwhile, we appeal to members of the public in the area to report promptly to the nearest Police Officer or Police Station should they sight the criminals with the abducted lady,” a statement said.
Those injured were identified as Samini Garama Dadu, 23, shot on the left side of the neck and is in serious condition. Ibrahim Said, 16, was shot on the left knee and his condition is stable.
Others are Elias Mwaringa Kathua, 12, shot on the left thigh, Mohamed Kalume Konde,10, shot on the left eye and Mang Katana Jeffa, 20, was shot on the right thigh.
The kidnapped Italian woman, 23, was working as a volunteer at Africa Milele Onlus.
She was kidnapped from a hotel room at Chaka Trading Centre in the 8pm attack.
“We assure the public that we are sparing no effort in tracking down the criminals and rescue the victim,” police said.
