Kenya has been moved to mourning in another terror attack barely less than five years since a similar attack that left scores dead and others with serious injuries.
The attack comes days after one of the Westgate Mall suspects was acquitted by a court of the charges relating to terror while three others have a case to answer.
The Dusit hotel operation was led by both recce squad and officers from Kenya Defence Forces that took less than a day as compared to West Gate Mall operation.
The operation which seemed well organized and had a quick response from security agents under the command of one Douglas Kiricho Kanja.
Kanja served as the Kilifi county police boss before being promoted to the position of the deputy GSU commandant a position he held till last year.
During his time at Kilifi, he led an operation against the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) who were rallying for the county to be separated from Kenya.
Kanja took over the mantle in July 2018 from Stephen Chelimo who retired following attainment of the mandatory age. The police unit is based in Ruiru is the biggest unit of both elite and key unit in police operations.
He leads the General Service Unit which is made up of highly trained officers and is the single largest unit under the National Police Service.
