The officer who was attached to the Othoro Police Station was found lifeless within Ogwedhi Market on Wednesday morning, after reportedly going missing the previous night.

He was found hanging on a piece of rope at a tree branch, reports the Citizen Digital.

According to area Chief Willis Ogwanda, the police officer was part of the security team that had been deployed to escort election materials in the Monday senatorial by-election in the county.

The chief said that the wife of the deceased had raised alarm over his mental stability later on Tuesday, after which herself and another officer took him to St Joseph Omboo Mission Hospital when he showed signs of mental illness.

He was diagnosed with Malaria before being discharged, but would later disappear the same night, with search attempts by fellow officers proving futile, only to be found dead the next day.

His body was moved to the Migori Level Four Hospital Mortuary, as probe on the possible reasons behind his death continues.
