Tongaren Member of Parliament Eseli Simiyu has taken issue with Deputy President William Ruto’s recent remarks that many have termed ‘threatening.
Speaking in Kirinyaga on Saturday, Ruto warned his opponents against interfering in his many national tours which he termed part of the Jubilee development agenda.
The Deputy Head of State said that he is simply helping President Uhuru Kenyatta as is expected of him by the law and by Kenyans who elected them to parliament, threatening to crush anyone who stands on his way.
“I will not allow anyone to halt the President’s projects and if you try to stop the government’s work, I will deal with you. Jubilee’s priority is the construction of roads and ensuring electricity connection, but other things will follow at the right time, “he was quoted by the Nation.
But in an interview on NTV’s AM Live Tuesday morning, the lawmaker found Ruto’s remarks reckless and destructive. He termed it unfortunate that such words can come from a leader who could become the next President of the republic.
The Ford Kenya Secretary-General noted that Ruto’s character relegates the office he holds in the eyes of Kenyans.
‘’It (Ruto's statement) is patronizing, condescending and should not be a statement to emanate from such an office. It is even threatening language. You don't expect that from a potential head of state. It is crude political language - Eseli Simiyu. #AMLiveNTV @KenMijungu,’’ he said.
