Hours after Ochillo Ayacko was pronounced winner in Migori senatorial by-election, a section of ODM leaders from Nyamira have 'conceded' defeat.
In the closely contested election, the party's candidate, Mr. Ayacko managed 85,000 of votes, slightly edging out Mr. Eddy Oketch who managed 61,000.
But the results have not been celebrated by a section of South Nyanza region with a number of officials blaming the party's Central Management Committee.
"This is a poor result from us. Being a stronghold, we expected at least 80 per cent of votes but we just did poorly," said Douglas Maati, ODM Youth League Leader, Kitutu Masaba.
He added: "The Central Management Committee handpicked someone who was not popular and this worked to our detriment."
On his part, Gesima ward representative Justus Ongaga, insisted that the party needs overhaul from headquarters.
"We need change from Orange House. Those doing business contrary to people's expectations have let us done. We shall struggle to rally people behind the party. Migori results should be a wake-up call for us."
Mr. Oketch was among top aspirants who had shown interest in the party before Ayacko was handpicked.
Former Manga MCA Peter Maroro also termed the victory as insignificant adding that the Central Management Committee is to blame for the debacle.
