Police in Siaya is holding three youths over an alleged breach of peace and involvement in violence.
The suspects are alleged to have caused havoc in Siaya Town over 2022 politics on Saturday.
According to the police, the suspects were part of two groups allied to Alego Usonga lawmaker Sam Atandi and his rival Martin Otieno.
The police said that the two groups landed in an argument on who should lead the constituency after the elections, each side maintaining that their preferred leader deserved it.
Siaya Police Commander Ambrose Mwakawa said that chaos erupted after one supporter of Otieno assaulted a supporter of Atandi.
This led to the other people from the warring groups into joining that fight, before the fight intensified into the destruction of property.
The police said that the situation worsened after one of the groups set ablaze a hotel said to belong to their rivals.
However, the police launched a manhunt for the groups and nabbed the trio on Sunday as reported.
They are set to be arraigned in court to answer to the charges today, reports the Citizen Digital.
This is not the first time Atandi is being named in such incidents.
He was only recently accused of storming the Siaya education offices with youth and assaulting an official.
