Dr Kidero is linked to irregular payment of Sh68 million to a city law firm during his reign, and spent a whooping four days in cells before being granted Sh8 million cash bail by Anti-Corruption Magistrate Douglas Ogoti.

Photos of Kidero sitted with Obado were first released by Migori County Communication officer Lisa Wema on Facebook. Later, they trended for the better part of Tuesday evening after Kidero's release.

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji says the inquiry relates to allegations that the Nairobi City County made an illegal payment of that amount to the law firm of Wachira Mburu, Mwangi & Company Advocates.

The suspects in the case include Nyakach MP Joshua Aduma Owuor, who was the acting director legal affairs at the defunct city council; George Wainaina Njogu, former chief of staff during Dr Kidero’s administration; former Nairobi mayor JohnNdirangu Kariuki; and former councillor Paul Mutunga Mutungi.

Also implicated are Mr Manasseh Karanja, a former acting director of internal audit at the county; Ms Philomena Kavinya Nzuki, a principal accountant; Mr Ng'ang'a Mungai; Ms Charity Muringo Ndiritu; Mr Peterson Njiru; Mr Ekaya Alumasi; Mr James Mbugua; Ms Elizabeth Wanjiru Nderitu; and Ms Alice Njeri Mundia, all accountants.

Last year, Governor Obado spent over one month in Industrial Area remand after being charged with murder. He's accused of killing his girlfriend Sharon Otieno and unborn child in September 2018 and subsequently dumping the body at Kodera Forest.

Others charged with the offense are his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero. They are all set to return to court in May. Throughout his incarceration, no high profile politician visited him.

And Tuesday's trip to Kilimani Police Station could be just part of strategy to make a political announcement. Mr Obado has since fallen out with ODM leader Raila Odinga. Mr Odinga has been spearheading Anti-Corruption war with President Uhuru Kenyatta, a move that perhaps led to arrest band prosecution of Kidero.
