Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has condemned the deadly Dusit terror attack.
Sonko said that the attack, which left several people dead and scores injured, is a cowardly act of the Al Shabaab militia.
He appealed on the public to remain calm following the attack as the rescue operations continue at the scene of crime.
“I condemn the act of terror and also appeal to the members of the public to remain calm as our security agencies handle the situation,” he said.
Gunshots were heard from the hotel at about 15:00 local time. The attackers threw several bombs at hotel’s car park before they entered the hotel and started firing.
According to police IG Joseph Boinnet, one of the attackers blew himself up during the attack at the facility.
Sonko’s Machakos counterpart Dr. Alfred Mutua has also condemned the gunmen behind the attack in Nairobi.
“Saddened by the attack against us. Their hate will never break our spirit nor change our love for each other and for humanity. My condolences and prayers to the families affected. Let us stay strong. Good job Kenyan security team” he said.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i assured the survivors and the rest of Kenyans that everything was under control.
