Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has said that youth unemployment and inactivity is a ticking bomb.

He says that idleness among youths is a huge matter of concern that should worry the nation.

"Youth, by nature are restless and more so when they are at a reproductive stage and live in a country where opportunities have shrunk. 

"Currently, the state of idleness among our youth is a matter of concern. As a country we have to come up with programs and projects to provide our youths with opportunities and also keep them busy," he said on Thursday.

The governor directed the county's ministry of Youth together with other departments to collect the actual of youths who are unemployed and their skill level saying that the act will help him create a plan for them to engage in something meaningful.

"In Machako,s the government is providing free training at our 39 polytechnics so as to empower the Machakos youth," Mutua said.

"Even as we wait for jobs to grow, my government is currently constructing four stadiums, out of our program to construct nine stadiums by December this year," he added in emphasis that sports could go a long way in solving the menace.

Mutua said that the stadiums will help engage the youth and help them build talent in a structured way.
