Murathe has since found himself on the receiving end as fellow Jubilee leaders bash him over his anti-Deputy President William Ruto remarks on Wednesday.

Confirming the same on Friday, Kamanda said that the truth is that Ruto should not count on the Central Kenya vote in his 2022 presidential bid.

He added that Murathe was simply airing the opinion of the majority who are, however, silent on the issue, adding that the region will finally make the declaration at the right time.

“When the right time comes, we will say the same things Mr Murathe has said but for now let us just focus on the unity of the country,” the former Starehe lawmaker told the Nation.

He accused the Jubilee leaders drawn from Mt Kenya region condemning Murathe of insincerity, saying that they are well aware that the situation on the ground is different from what they are trying to make Kenyans and the DP believe.

"Let those condemning Mr Murathe stop because what he said is what majority of Jubilee Party members are saying silently when you speak to them," he added.

Murathe added that Jubilee is willing to support a leader from the region for the presidency, remarks that were echoed by former Mukurweini lawmaker Kabando Wa Kabando.

This comes as a contradiction to initial reports from President Uhuru Kenyatta's quarters that it would automatically rally the region in support of Ruto when he retires.
