The worrying trend has made Ganze Member of Parliament Teddy Mwambire to contemplate pushing for amendments on the witchcraft act to secure the elderly.

Speaking at Mnarani club, Kilifi County, during the closure of Coast Youth Symposium on Peace and Security, Mwambire termed those killing the elderly as ignorant persons from retrogressive societies who associate old age with witchcraft.

The event dubbed “Towards a Future Without the Threat of Extremism and Urban Crime” was organised by local civil societies.

Participants were from Mombasa, Lamu, Kilifi, Kwale and Tana River counties. The MP asked the young people to spread peace in their localities and end extremism and urban crime.

According to Kenya Law, the Act states how the Kenyan law will deal with a person pretending to exercise witchcraft, a witch doctor supplying advice or article for witchcraft with intent to injure, a person using witch medicine with intent to injure, one possessing charms, anyone charging others with witchcraft and one attempting to discover crime by witchcraft.
