As reported by Nation, the CS was acting on complaints from the residents that the company was emptying its wastes into the neighbouring River Kibos rendering the water unusable.

Since then, the company has been on spot with activists urging residents not to consume sugar from the company in order to pile pressure on the factory’s management to stop polluting River Kibos which pours its water into Lake Victoria.

Speaking in Kisumu last week, Kisumu based social justice activist Boniface Ogutu Akach said that relevant authorities charged with safeguarding environment had failed to discharge their mandate and it was high time residents did what they could.

However, the Environmental CS made a declaration last week assured residents that his ministry will take appropriate action against the those polluting the river.

Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang ' Nyong'o also said time to take action had come in order to protect residents, aquatic life and environments.
