Though Uhuru is obviously seeking to enhance effectiveness and service delivery in his leadership, the move is likely to have serious repercussions on his leadership.

The issue will most likely dominate the headlines and media reports for the next few days before it finally sinks and with time take the political angle.

The debate will be on whether it was right to sack Echesa, while his supporters are also likely to cry foul and link the sacking to a specific community or group of people.

Uhuru should prepare for condemnations and so should opposition leader and Echesa's former boss Raila Odinga whose allies repeatedly engaged the latter in verbal wars.

This could also mark the start of reforms in the cabinet and could open the way for more in the near future, at a time when a number of CSs are being probed over graft.

So far, Cabinet Secretaries Henry Rotich (Treasury), Mwangi Kiunjuri (Agriculture), Najib Balala (Tourism) and Simon Chelugui (Water) are being probed over alleged graft scandals in their ministries.

Judging by Uhuru's repeated threats to his corrupt officials, Echesa's sacking could soon be followed by more.

At the same time, this could be the beginning of the political journey of the ousted CS who has only served in cabinet for a year.

Before his ouster, he was known as a staunch supporter of Deputy President William Ruto and a defiant official who refused to heed Uhuru's directive to shun politicking.

It is very likely that he will now concentrate on a political seat in the approaching 2022 elections, most likely in his Western Kenya backyard.
