Here is the step-by-step registration process;

Application form

Once you are ready to register your business, you will need to visit the county or sub-county headquarters where you will be given an application form to be filled all key details about your business among them business name, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) pin number, business email address, ward, business physical location, building name, plot number and floor number among others.

Coding

After filling the application form, you will be directed to the second stage where a county official will give you a code depending on various factors like business physical location, type of business and size of business.

It is at this stage that it will be determined the amount you will be required to pay for the license.

Online registration

Once you are done with the two process, you will be required to visit a cyber café or access interment services on your phone where you log into the county website and officially register your business.

Online registration is key as the county government of Uasin Gishu has integrated its services under the UGPay.

First approver

The next stage after the online application is the approval of your application. At this stage, a county official will look at your details online to confirm whether the code given matches the description of your business, location and amount of fee required to pay.

Second approver

Once done with the first approver, you will go to the second approver who will more of go through what the first approver checked. According to a county official who is not allowed to be quoted, “a second approver was put in place so as to ensure the licensing process is not a one-man show.”

Invoice generation

After details you have provided are confirmed to be matching with other details of coding and fee, you will be taken through another stage where an invoice is generated. This can be in form of SMS, printed copy for the corporate organizations or an email detailing the amount of money you need to pay.

Payment

Once you get the invoice, you are required to pay the amount quoted. Payment can be made through the county MPesa pay bill number 646464 or Equity bank. You can also make payments through other banks although the bank slips will have to be verified first.

Confirmation of pay and printing of license

As soon as the payment is reflected in the UGPay system you will receive confirmation of payment and at the same time, the license will be printed out.

Recording and stamping

After the license has been printed, it will have to be stamped and recorded for accountability purposes. After this is done, you will be given your silence to go and hang it on your business premise and you will be set to go.

On average it takes as little as 5-10 mins to complete the business registration process once you are done with the online registration stage.
