National Assembly Leader of Majority Aden Duale during his visit in his hometown was spotted with a dagger.
Mr Duale was visiting Garissa County on July 31, 2016, when he was spotted with a dagger around his waist.
The dagger which was concealed carefully in a leather sheath had been placed on his left side and was spotted when Mr Duale was dancing to some traditional music at the Garissa Cultural Centre.
The dagger, which in Arabic is identified as Janbiya, is an Omani traditional dagger that is worn by men as a show of sartorial elegance and status in society.
Traditionally, the dagger can be worn by men above 14 years as an accessory to their clothing.
The men can also carry the dagger during traditional events such as dances and can only come out of its sheath in extreme cases of conflict.
Duale was also dressed in a traditional attire and he visited Garissa to encourage the locals to continue upholding their culture.
“I call upon Garissa residents to uphold their culture so as to preserve, protect and sustain the cultural heritage of our people for our children and their grandchildren. I also danced to some good music during the visit at the Garissa Cultural Centre,” Mr Duale said as quoted by kutv.co.ke.
