Women leaders in the country have been urged to unite and ensure they strengthen their democratic rights by advancing reforms that break down barriers to ensure more women can vie, win, serve and lead.
In an interview of Monday, Amani Women’s Movement (AWM) chairperson Immaculate Shamala said women have a great role to play when it comes to matters politics.
She said AWM which is affiliated to Amani National Congress (ANC), under the leadership of Musalia Mudavadi is aimed at fighting for women's rights, and political power.
“We envision a society in which women's contribution to all aspects of life is recognised, rewarded and celebrated,” she said.
She divulged that the movement is open to women but strictly those who believe in equality at all levels.
According to her, AWM is currently building bases across the country, with the key message being strengthening the grassroots to believe in women leadership and a Musalia Mudavadi presidency.
“We seek to do a lot of political mobilisation for Mudavadi as women of Kenya” she said.
The movement also looks forward to partnering with individuals and institutions that respect and champion women leadership and gender equity.
According to Shamala, the AWM support for Mudavadi is pegged on his principles and ideologies which resonate with the movement's goal.
