Kalenjin men in rural villages of Uasin Gishu county are no exception. They are used to doing the following things daily before sleeping;

Checking cattle

Many Kalenjin men in rural villages are farmers. Nearly all families own cattle and it's the mandate of the man to look after them.

Jackson Bor, a resident of Kaptabwa village in Uasin Gishu county says he always go to the cowshed to check on his cattle.

"It will be awkward for a man to retire to bed before checking on his cows if they are still on their sheds," said Bor, a father of three.

Assign the following day duties

In Kalenjin community, the man is respected as the head of the family and it is his duty to assign chores to his family members.

The Kalenjin man prepares and assigns the roles to be performed the next day. Children will go to bed knowing what they should do the following day. This ensures an efficient division of labour.

Jane Talam testifies to this saying that her husband is a very good manager as he clearly assigns duties to his family and revisits the following day to confirm if it was completed.

Assemble defence tools

A Kalenjin man is the defender of the family against any attack. He provides security to his family and belongings. Weapons are assembled to a convenient location before going to bed so as to be retrieved easily in case of an emergency.

"I put rungus (clubs), Pangas and other available weapons on the bedsides so that I can easily get it in times of need," said Maritim, a resident of Kaptabwa village in Uasin Gishu county.
