The Ukambani political kingpin said he was misquoted by a section of the media after he declared his stand on the referendum.

Kalonzo said he is still committed to the race to power.

He denied saying that Uhuru should be given another term in office.

“When I say I mean it. When I said I have forgiven my brother Uhuru, I meant it but I did not say President Uhuru Kenyata should have a third term,” Kalonzo said.

The former Vice President spoke at a funeral service in Makindu, Makueni County on Saturday.

Kalonzo’s statement has continued to elicit mixed reactions from different factions.

In a quick rejoinder, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, also Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement leader has urged Kalonzo to back his candidature in the race for power.

Mutua said Kalonzo has proven that he is not ready to lock horns with other candidates including Deputy President William Ruto in 2022.

He challenged the Kamba nation to rethink about the decision to support Kalonzo’s candidature saying he is no longer relevant in the game of politics.

Mutua wants Kalonzo to hang his political boots.
