Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has urged elected leaders from the county to put aside their political differences and work together so as to make the Universal Health Care program successful.
Mutua said the leaders should rise above political affiliations and have unity of purpose for the program to be successful.
"The success of this program depends largely on the input and commitment of all stakeholders," Mutua said.
Machakos is among the four counties selected to pilot the Universal Health Care in Kenya, a World Bank's sponsored program.
Mutua spoke when he hosted some of the elected leaders from the region at his Machakos office on Tuesday.
The program is set to begin in September 2018.
It is aimed at benefiting 1.3 million residents of Machakos county.
The following services will be available in all 302 county health centers;
Free lab, free maternity, free immunization, free ambulance, free dental, free pharmaceutical services among others.
Universal Health Care is part of President Uhuru Kenyatta's big four agenda and will be first tried in four counties namely Machakos, Kisumu, Isiolo, and Nyeri.
