Former Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister Martha Karua has poked holes to Deputy President William Ruto's presidential ambitions, insisting that he's 'least qualified for the seat'.
Dr Ruto has intensified campaigns in his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, at times chiding his critics as 'people who think a child from poor background cannot lead'.
"It's by God's grace am here. Some people think certain seats are preserves of the rich. They get shocked when they see children of the poor doing well," he said over the weekend at Kakamega.
In recent weeks, Ruto has accused DCI George Kinoti of being used by unnamed people in government to fight him on pretext of the war against corruption.
But in an interview at KTN on Wednesday, Karua insisted that Dr Ruto does not have qualities to lead Kenya, adding that 'it's Kenyans to decide when that time comes'.
"Let me say it again, I have said before, he's the least qualified. Personally I think he's totally unsuitable to lead. But if Kenyans decide so, I have no powers. But he's least qualified," said Ms Karua.
Ms Karua finished fifth in 2013 Presidential polls and failed to capture Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat five years later. She lost to newcomer Ann Waiguru, who had a short stint as Devolution minister.
Lately, Ms Karua has been backing President Uhuru Kenyatta's agenda, and was in the frontline defending him against claims that he had abandoned Mt Kenya on service delivery and development.
The former Gichugu MP was vocal when Uhuru and Ruto faced tough test in the International Criminal Court, holding the opinion that the two were responsible for post election skirmishes in 2007/08.
